Island Climate - Pacific

This is a CORDEX endorsed Flagship Pilot Study that aims to create high resolution future climate projections for the Pacific region and use these to understand the climate change risks in the region.

ANNOUNCING: Summer school on CROCO/WRF modelling in New Caledonia, October 6th to 17th October 2025

Announcing a training session in numerical modeling using the CROCO model (www.croco-ocean.org) and WRF held in Noumea, New Caledonia from October 6th to October 17th, 2025.

IC-Pac will have multiple impacts

  • Assessment of Regional Climate Model (RCM) capability to simulate island climates and potentially improvements to the representation of key processes for islands.
  • Production of climate change projections to inform climate change risk assessments and climate adaptation decisions on these islands.
  • A new body of knowledge on island climate change to inform future Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.
  • A RCM simulation protocol applicable to study island climates across the world
  • A coordinated high-resolution simulation ensemble that is authoritative, consistent and relevant to user needs

Call to Action

IC-Pac is a collaborative project by an international team of scientists with the interest and skills to contribute to the creation of high resolution regional climate projections for the Pacific Islands. If you fit this description, and see the need for the islands to have better climate change information to inform their needed climate change impact and adaptation work, then contact us and join the project team.
